# Newton’s Laws of Motion

Sir Isaac Newton is known as the most influential scientist of all the time. He is also known as a key figure in the scientific revolution. Its reason is that he has done lots of work in the fields of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy etc. He had dominated his scientific point of views by presenting laws of motion (Newton’s First law of motion, Newton’s Second law of motion and Newton’s Third law of motion), the theory of relativity and much more. With the help of laws of motion, Newton had presented three basic ideas that are applied to the Physics of motion. These three basic ideas were tested many times over the years by various scientists. These scientists also proved true these ideas and these laws are known as Newton’s Laws of Motion or Newton’s Three Laws of Motion. The Newton’s Laws of Motion are explained below;

# Newton’s First Law of Motion

Newton’s first law of motion is also known as the Law of Inertia. The statement of Newton’s first law of motion is given below;

“If an object is at rest or moving with uniform speed, it will remain at rest or continue its uniform motion unless an unbalanced force is acting upon it.”

# Examples of Newton’s First Law of Motion

Examples of Newton’s first law of motion in everyday’s life are given below;
1)    A book on the table. A book on the table is a practical example of Newton’s first law of motion. It means that a book will remain on rest on the table unless an unbalanced force is not acted upon it.
2)    A car moving with uniform speed. If a car is moving with uniform velocity, it will continue its uniform motion in the absence of frictional forces and force applied by the brakes. If we want to stop it, it is necessary for us to consider frictional forces and to apply brakes.

# Newton’s Second Law of Motion

Newton’s second law of motion is also very useful in our practical life. Its reason is that with the help of Newton’s second law of motion, we are able to get the famous force-mass equation. The statement of Newton’s second law of motion is given below;

“The acceleration produced in an object is directly proportional to the Force applied on that object and inversely proportional to the mass of that object”.

Mathematically, we can present Newton’s second law of motion in the following way;

a 1/m……………………...….2

By comparing equations 1 and 2, we get another equation;

a F/m
a = F/m
F = ma

# Daily life examples of Newton’s second law of motion

Some essential daily life examples of the second law of motion are given below;
1)    If you are pushing a truck and a car by applying the same force, you will see that the car will move faster than the truck. Its reason is that the acceleration of the car will be greater than the acceleration of the truck.
2)    If we are applying the same force on an empty shopping mart and on a loaded shopping mart, we will observe that empty shopping mart will move faster than a loaded shopping cart. Its reason is that the mass of empty shopping mart is less than the mass of a loaded shopping cart.

# Newton’s third law of motion

Newton’s third law of motion is the most famous law of motion. The statement of Newton’s third law of motion is given below;

“Action and reaction are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction”.

# Daily life examples of Newton’s third law of motion

Some essential daily life examples of the third law of motion are given below;
1)    When we throw a ball towards the wall, wall bounces back it towards us. The force that we apply on the ball is known as action and the force that walls exert on the ball is known as a reaction. We can observe that these two forces are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction.
2)    When air rushes out of a balloon, it is known as action. As a result of its reaction, the balloon moves back, it is known as a reaction.

# Importance of Newton’s laws of motion

In Physics, we have to deal with Newton’s laws of motion in various aspects. Therefore, we can’t deny the importance of Newton’s laws of motion. Their importance is explained below;
1)    With the help of Newton’s laws of motion, we are able to form the most intuitively and appealing physical theory.
2)    With the help of these laws, it is also possible for us to describe the diverse aspects of nature with the help of the basic mathematical formulas.
3)    These laws are also actually working in daily life.
4)    With the help of these laws, it is also possible for us to lay the groundwork for the later physics developments.
